Peanut's Penguin Party

Over the weekend my Peanut informed the whole family that she wants a Penguin Party for her next birthday party. Now, her party isn't until March, but she wants to start planning it now, maybe take a dry run and invite a few people over to see how it goes before the actual event. You know, so we know how it goes over and all... ok she didn't really give me that reason, but I'm sure she was thinking it.

Do you know how much party stuff there is out there in those nice neat little packages that make birthday parties so easy? Um, that would be zero. Zip. Zilch. Nada. None.
She doesn't want Madagascar (which I'm sorta happy about because I didn't really like the movie-except for the penguins!)

Yep, so now I have to, as any good mother would do, find stuff for a penguin themed birthday party. So far I've found penguin lights on Ebay. A pinata on some other website (when it comes closer to the event I'll actually buy). I figure I could do a black table cloth and a white table cloth... black and white napkins. I don't think the cake will be any problem because any professional should be able to whip up a penguin, right? For fun we might make penguins puppets from paper sacks...

Help me here, give me some ideas.

PLEASE!

All the guests should wear tuxedos.

how about a penguin race? not sure how you would do this, but somehow make them all walk like penguins and race around the yard or house . . .

Mugsy, as cute as that would be I don't think 6 year old girls will want to wear tuxedos. But thanks for the idea.

Becky, that sounds like fun!

Family Fun Magazine online always has something. Here's a couple I found:
Gum Drop Penguins

Penguin Shuffle:

Here's an amusing indoor race that challenges kids' balancing skills, penguin style.

WHAT YOU NEED:
Beanbag or Hacky Sack-style footbag

HOW TO PLAY:
1. Have the children stand side by side with their "eggs" (beanbags or Hacky Sack-style footbags) on top of their feet.

2. Players try to shuffle across the room without dropping their "eggs." The first one to succeed wins.

March of the Penguins is out on DVD now.

And here's a picture of a cute penguin cake.

I hope peanut has a great birthday. My daughter turns 12 in March too. No penguins here, just some girlfriends and dinner and a movie. :-)

I think Mama should wear a tuxedo and shuffle around the party guests snorking or whatever sound it is that penguins make. Oh, and eat a raw fish every now and then, that would add an authentic touch. We want this to be educational, after all!

I lived in absolute dread of my children's parties because I am soooo not good at this kind of thing. Now that they are 25, 22, 21, and 19, I am really missing the entire process! Enjoy it while you can!!

Jennifer has got it goin' on! She would be a great home room mother, or, better yet, the cool best friend that comes up with all the ideas and saves the day!

Yeah, Jennifer is the coolest home-room-best-friend-mom!

Madcap, I just don't do fish. I don't eat them for anyone. Even my precious little one. I was thinking of looking for red bow ties for the kids to wear though. But I don't know if the kids would get it. As adults we tend to think of tuxes as penguin suits but kids just think they're black and white.

Thank you all for your ideas. I found some beads that would make really cool necklaces! I wish I knew if it was going to be warm or cold in March.

The Penguin is a dangerous and devious villain. I urge you to keep your daughter away from him. He's got a weaponized umbrella, for God's sake!

Just thought I'd stop to say "hi."

Sorry I can't be of much help with the penguin thing. With the March of the Penguins movie out, I'm surprised their isn't more available for you to choose from.

Oh I know, turn the air conditioning in the house to 35 degrees. :)

Batpug, you should come to the party to protect us incase The Penguin, the evil villian, shows up!!! That sounds like a great idea. I think my friend, Leo (he's a pug too) will be here so I'm sure he could help you stop crime against the party!

Yeah, I'm all about the ideas. Just don't ask me to help. ::snort::
