There once was girl

There once was a girl
Who had a little curl
In the middle of her forehead
And when she was good
She was very very good
And when she was bad
She was horrid!!!!
I don't know who wrote this poem, but I know this little girl...

Running Away

"I hate you! I don't want to ever see you again! I'm running away!"

Do you remember saying these words to your parents when you were a kid? Ever feel like saying them to your own kids sometimes? Maybe not the "I hate you" part, but the running away thought creeps into my mind more then I'll ever admit to, even in a blog!

I remember the one and only time I ran away from home. I was probably around 7 or 8 and I ran all the way to right under my brother's window. Yep, that's as far as I made it. You see, we lived far far from anywhere at all and I needed to weigh my options. Town, where most of my friends lived, was over 20 minutes away by car so for a chubby little girl it'd probably take days and I'd get hungry. I could run to Candy Cane's house, but someone would find me there. I was surrounded by woods and people were always telling ghost stories and I didn't like the dark... oh the decisions! I don't remember what I got so mad at, probably something my mean big brother did or said to me. I don't remember how many changes of clothes or what toys I packed up either. Couldn't have been very many though. I don't remember owning a suitcase, but I'm sure I used something!

I probably sat there a whole hour weighing my options, not liking any of them (I didn't want to get into trouble and I could see that this is where I was heading) and I was listening to my brother in his room. At one point I remember him almost crying (I say almost because I don't know if he was or not) and saying how much he was going to miss me and he was wishing I would come home. Well, that was all I needed. No apology needed, I had heard what I needed to hear. I walked back in the in house, probably to my room to take a nap thankful I didn't have to run away.

So, what's got me on this subject? Oh, just Peanut trying to run away tonight. Daddy and I tried very hard to listen to her go on and on about how she wasn't going to be our daughter anymore and therefore she didn't need to respect us. This went on for about thirty minutes, she even packed her suitcase with two baby dolls, seven pairs of panties, and two shirts (she said she didn't need any pants), and a box of Fruit Roll Ups. She took her cowgirl hat and was ready to "travel" as she called it. She told us she was going to live with Cashew and be Cashew's sister. We insisted that before she left she needed to call all her grandparents and break the news to them so they didn't buy her anymore Christmas presents, birthday presents, trips to come see her or to take her shopping. Well, she didn't really want to make those phone calls. Finally we talked her into watching TV with us, since Drake and Josh were on and daddy's supper was getting cold. So she did. Then she took a bath. She did finally call her Nana after I told her that Nana insisted she call her before running away. Nana and Peanut talked for several minutes then she went to bed. Must've been convincing enough for her to at least stay one more night with us.

Thanks Nana!

Next time won't you sing with me

ABC meme
Thanks Jo(e) for introducing me to this meme.

Accent: I can hide my backwoods hick accent during normal waking hours, keep me up after midnight and I can't concentrate hard enough.
Booze: No thanks, makes me sick.
Chore I Hate: Cleaning the kittie box
Dog or Cat: I really liked Jo(e)'s answer so I'm stealing it. Cat. I like dogs but I don’t respect them. They obey humans, a dreadfully stupid trait. Cats, on the other hand, are independent. They obey no one. And if they don’t like something, they hiss and let you know it.
But I will add that Ayatolla Musgy does don't fall in this catagory, he is far superior to all other dogs!
Essential Electronics: I miss my computer and tv if I go too long without it, but I can do a couple of days without each no problem.
Favorite Cologne: Aqua De Gio (for men) makes me happy!
Gold or Silver: I prefer to wear silver, but wish I had some gold bars
Hometown: Tahlequah
Insomnia: When I was about 17 I wouldn't go to sleep until about 4 am and got up at 6 for almost the whole summer. Not fun because I couldn't watch tv. All I did was stare at the stars.
Job Title: Bookkeeper/Wedding coordinator is the job I get paid for.
Kids: just a Peanut
Living arrangements: in a house with my husband and Peanut
Number of sexual partners: one
Overnight hospital stays: just when Peanut was born. I checked in on Tuesday and took her home on Saturday.
Phobias: I wouldn't want to be buried alive, but I don't think I have a phobia of it.
Quote: Courage is not the absence of fear but the knowledge that something is more important then fear. It's from the Princess Diaries
Siblings: brother
Time I wake up: between 6:30 and 7:00 am during the week and as late as possible on weekends!
Unusual talent or skill: I do this thing with my lips where the top lip is pulled up in one corner and the bottom lip is pulled down in the opposite corner. Oh, I can do either side too, makes people stop what they're doing when you do it to them randomly.
Vegetable I love: I love me some 'maters!
Worst habit: blogging when I'm at work
X-rays: I've had x-rays of my teeth and my head
Yummy foods I make: everything I make is yummy, but my meatloaf doesn't last long nor does anything made of chocolate
Zodiac sign: I'm Aquarius, as if you didn't know.

Oh Lucy!

My friend, J's wife, had a baby yesterday. For months now we've thought it was going to be a girl, but when Nickel called to relay the blessed event to me he informed me they had a bouncing baby boy! Later that afternoon I told Peanut that they had a boy instead of a girl like we thought they were going to have. She looked up at me and said, "Someone's got some 'splainin' to do." I chuckled at her remark and told her that its really hard to tell if they baby's going to be a boy or a girl when they're still inside the mommy but the doctor had thought it was going to be a girl. Peanut considered this for a moment then said, "So the doctor's got some 'splainin' to do."

The Pick-Up Truck

Mother Nature, I'm convinced is all woman. She can't seem to make up her mind and can be quite moody at times. Take yesterday and today for example. Yesterday it is hot, in the 90's and humid. Later we had quite a few storms and I think maybe a tornado, though I haven't watched the weather to confirm. Today it is in the lower 60's. That's a 30 degree difference people! Now tell me that ain't the work of a woman!

My friend, Anna had borrowed a new Chrysler Convertible from the dealership I use to work at. She really had no intentions of buying but since we know several people there they let her "test drive" it for a day. Usually I make fun of people who drive around town on cold days with the top down but after today I will no longer do that.

At 1:51 pm I walked into Anna's office and announced that we had missed Two Stamp Tuesday at our favorite coffee house but she insisted we had enough time to make it. We grabbed our purses and Christy and ran out the door. Christy, who was in the back wanted the top down. So Anna obliged, put the top down and cranked the heater on full blast. Silly I know. We got about half way and Christy was freezing so the top went up. We got our coffee (actually Italian Creme Soda for me) and were on our way back to the office. I sat in the back this time and since unlike Christy I had my coat on we put the top back down. The wind was whipping around my face and I had to concentrate just to keep breathing because the wind was trying to take it away. I closed my eyes, leaned my head back and was instantly transformed to my childhood.

****************************

I'm about 13 years old, my mouth is full of metal, and its warm outside. My daddy, driving his brown pick-up truck is coming down our dirt road. Momma has some groceries packed in brown sacks, they're sitting on the bar waiting to be loaded into the truck. After a few minutes the bags are loaded into the truck as well as a lawn mower and weed eater. I climb in back and take my spot in the middle of the toolbox. Dad starts the truck and backs down the dirt drive way and then goes, dust flying everywhere from being kicked up on the dirt road, but it isn't long before we're on black top and the air clears. I know it's going to take about 10 minutes to get where we're going so I just close my eyes. The road twists and turns and we go along and only when we get to Jim Clay Hill do I find the little holes where each lid of the box hinges to hold on. Jim Clay is a steep hill with several right and left twists but soon we're at the bottom and I let go again. My long brown hair is flying around my face and I can't hear a thing except the roar of the motor and the wind rushing past my ears. But wait, ratta tatta tatta tattta tattta tatta... the bridge, who could miss that sound? A couple more twist and turns and we back on a dirt road and soon at our destination. I open my eyes.

***************************
We're back at work.

Bedtime Stories

My friends Emma Sometimes and SusiebadoozieQzee (Lord help me if I spelled that wrong) were talking about some of things we parents hear at bedtime and what we'd like to answer their questions with.

Then I put Peanut to bed. To say that putting Peanut to bed is a chore would be THE understatement of the year! No, make that decade! No! Make that century!!! But I digress.

These are some of the things I heard tonight.

Peanut: Mom, why is Texas not in Oklahoma?
Me: They joined the Union before we did. Go to sleep.
Peanut: What's a Union?
Me: The United States. Be quite and go to sleep.
Peanut: I don't like going to bed. I don't like going to sleep. I don't like being in my room. I don't like being in my bed. I don't like (she went on until I could walk into her room but I quit listening)...
Me: Look, I know you don't like being in your room, your bed or going to slee-
Peanut: Or in a cage.
Me: (maybe I should have kept listening to her list of dislikes... I was trying very hard not to laugh but of course I was NOT suceeding very well) Yes... (trying very hard to regain composure) I suppose being in a cage would be a bad thing and if you don't go to sleep right now I'm going to go buy a cage to put you in NOW GO TO SLEEP!!!
Peanut: Will you buy a pink one?
Me: GO TO SLEEP!!!!!

Friday Caption Contest

I was sitting here trying to think of something witty to say and coming up with nada. zip. zilch. Then it dawned on me. Today is Friday. You know what Friday means! That' right, another fun-filled episode of the Friday Caption Contest!
*inserty wild clapping*

First, let me say thank you to those of you who participated not just this week but every single week.

However due to declining interst I have decided to cancel the Friday Caption Contest. I have enjoyed all your captions, you've made me laugh!

I got a phone call yesterday from Peanut's school asking me if I could come get her because she wasn't feeling good. I had tried to talk her into going home and taking a nap instead of going to school before dropping her off at kindergarten but she was the treat person and insisted the 5 minute power nap she got on the way to school was just what she needed. Little Liar.

So we spent the rest of the afternoon vegging on the couch. I spent most of that time holding her. I like being needed.

Later I called Nickel and asked him to pick up a movie for her. He had wanted me to skip church, just this once, and the three of us go to the park but settled for watching movies all night.

For Peanut we watched The Chronicals of Narnia. She had seen it in theaters with friends but I was too cheap to buy a ticket and we finally got around to renting it. I really enjoyed the movie. I thought the special effects were awesome!

After we sent Peanut off to bed we put in a scary movie. I don't like scary movies. I talked Nickel into watching Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back which was in our DVD collection instead. He can watch the scary movie after Peanut goes to bed tonight.

It was a nice, relaxing evening. It meant more to me then he'll ever know, I'm sure.

FYI

FYI if your friend is having a tough time it's better for you or say NOTHING to ANYONE then to blab about her problems! Talking about her behind her back is never good.
She will always find out.

Even if you didn't mean for her to.

Even if you just told "one person".
She'll know.
I promise.

One of those moments

So I'm out and about driving around this morning running some errands. I made a stop, got out of the car handled my business and was back on the road in a matter of just moments.
I approached a red light and waited my turn as any good girl should and when the light turned green I pushed on the gas pedal. I'm going along pushing about 35 mph because that's about what the speed limit is. The motor's reving pretty high and should be switching gears.
Any moment now...
Yep, I'm almost doing 40 mph and am running at 3000 rpms.... that's pretty high but I'm sure it's going to go into the next gear right about... now.
Now.
Now?!?!?
Why does it feel like I'm still in second gear?
I back off the gas, doing 2500 now... um, something's not right here.
I glance down to look for my phone which should be right there to call my mechanic, aka my husband.
I didn't have to call him. Nope. I see the problem.

I'm driving in second gear.
I'm not in a great mood again today so I'll amuse you with some pretty pictures I've taken over the last couple of days. Hope you're having a great day!

6 Weird Things About Me

Ok, well I saw this Meme on a couple of sites but I finally decided to do it myself after reading Sob'ah My Soul. These things are more random then weird... or at least that's what I think, you might think they're toally weird and that's fine. I'll let you think that if you really want to. I mean, it's not like I can stop you, right?

1. I'm uncomfortable in tense/emotional situations and attempt to use humor to get out of it.

2. I can't watch people brush thier teeth, but I can watch when I have blood drawn.

3. When I lived alone I would sleep with the heater (it was winter) AND a fan on!

4. I think I have more blogger friends then real life friends.

5. I'm more comfortable around older people then people my age

6. I retain random numbers in my memory. For instance, up until about a year ago when I learned the Federal Tax ID number for my current job I could tell you the Id number for the dealership I worked at from 1999-2003 but I only knew the number the last six months I worked there. I can still remember phone numbers of friends I had in school. I don't have an address book because I memorize addresses too... except zip codes, for that I always use USPS.com

Ok, if you do this Meme tell me about it so I can go make fun of you... er, I mean, read your blog, yeah, that's what I meant.

Shhh... it's a secret

*in hushed tones*

I actually talked Nickel into going to church with me yesterday. And he didn't have the I'm-miserable-and-I-can't-believe-I-agreed-to-this look on his face the whole time!

Peanut was super excited to have daddy's lap to sit on the whole service. Later, when I asked Nickel how he liked the service he shrugged. I asked him if he thought the choir sounded good, he said, better then I could do. Then added he got a kick out of listening to Peanut try to sing the songs. She's usually more intersted in her color page or other things to listen to the songs so I never know how much she actually picks up but yesterday she had her daddy to show off for.

She made me laugh at the end of the service when we were singing the hymn of commitment, she couldn't wrap her arms around both of us tight enough!

Will he go back? That remains to be seen. Maybe next year, maybe sooner.

Amazing Story

It's very quite here at the church today. Not much going on, at least on my end of things. So, I finally had time to surf around in some of my favorite blogs. If you haven't read Real Live Preacher lately, here's a post that I think you should take time for. He has a way of bringing a story to life in such a way that you almost feel like you're right there watching the scene unfold.

This and That and Pictures

From front to back: Georgiana (formerly George until we realize he was a she), Tiger, Jack, and Flower's foot on Jacks head.
This is my Cherry Blossom tree that has bloomed beautifully!

First rose bud to show it's true colors!

Peanut doing cartwheels in the front yard.

I took this picture of us laying in the grass. The sun was shining in our eyes so we had them closed. Pretty good aim for someone with their eyes closed, don't ya think?

Isn't my Peanut beautiful?

(And yes Mother, I'm making you a set of real prints for your photo albums!)

Dumpster Diving

I threw my friend, J's wife, a baby shower this weekend. J and J's wife are having a little girl soon and we invited about a hundred people to the shower. Because of the amount of invitations we sent out I rented the dining room at the church I work at to accomadate all the guest. I only had ONE person RSVP that said they were coming and 4 that said they were not. I didn't know how many people to plan for so I just got some stuff. We had just enough cake and just enough punch. It was a good deal!

The shower itself was very nice. J's wife got some really nice clothes, lots of blankets, and several odds and ends.

After the shower I was cleaning up and packing the car. Most of the bags I had used to haul stuff to the church broke so I was loading ALL my stuff by hand. After I finally got the car loaded I cleaned up the room according to the clean up sheet that was left for me.

I got the bright idea of walking down to the other set of doors to take the trash out to the dumpster, those doors are right next to the dumpter and I had already locked the other doors. I didn't pay attention to all the red signs. As soon as I opened the door an alarm started going off. I was the ONLY one in the building. I ran back into the dining room, grabbed my keys, ran outside to get my purse to get my cell phone, by this time the alarm has stopped. I went ahead and called someone to find out if the cops were going to show up or what. No, they weren't but that alarm is set and I need to walk the trash around to the other doors...

Now, where did I leave the trash? Oh yeah, by the other doors. I walked down, got the trash, walked back up and then back down outside to the dumpster. Next time I'll not get any bright ideas.

Later that evening after I got home I started rinsing out dishes knowing that I wasn't going to want to wash them until later and didn't want them to be all crusty. I rinsed the crystal punch bowl out and went to set it aside. But instead I dropped it in the sink. It shattered. I have cuts on my left hand from picking it all up and throwing it away. I decided to just leave the other dishes crusty.

I washed the dishes later that day and Sunday afternoon as I was getting ready to fix lunch I started putting dishes away. Then I noticed that I couldn't find my silver spoon that went with a dip bowl. I pulled the trash out from under the sink. It wasn't there. I looked in the car, it wasn't there. Around 5 pm I talked Nickel into going to the church with me so I could go dumpster diving. I pulled out the trash bag (luckily we only used one) and started digging. It was pretty gross but I still didn't find my spoon. We went home. I was disappointed but wasn't going to loose any sleep over a spoon.

Around 5 am I woke up and as though a light bulb had gone off I remembered the spoon was in the dip bowl which is still in the icebox. The following is the actual conversation I had with God after that:

Me: Thanks God!

God: You're welcome.

Me: Why didn't you tell me that 12 hours ago before I went dumpster diving?

God: You didn't ask.

Me: Dang it.

England

Questions: Have you ever traveled to England? When is the best time to go? When is the worst time to go? Is there any place that is a MUST see? Is there anywhere you think is a MUST NOT see?

Why: I have always wanted to see England. It was my maiden name and therefore interest me growing up. I've also be reading Jane Austen's books and have fallen in love with the 19th century England....I'm sure a few things have changed in the last two hundred years. Duh.

So I've been thinking that for our 10th wedding anniversary Nickel and I should go somewhere fun because our honeymoon consisted of one night in a hotel in the town we lived in, but it had a jacuzzi in the room! We couldn't afford to go anywhere and the hotel room was a present from his family. When I asked Nickel where in Europe he'd like to go he said England and that settled it. We have until 2009 to make these plans final... and save the money...and change our minds...

I just want to know what your thoughts and feelings are. I'm sure there's at least 1 or 10 of my readers that have been, are there, or are planning on going that can offer some advise.

Thank you!!!

MUST READ!!

For those with little else to clutter your mind ... I have this bit of information!
On Wednesday of this week, at two minutes and three seconds after 1:00 in the morning, the time and date will be
01:02:03 04/05/06.
That won't ever happen again during our lifetime.
You may now return to your (normal?) life

Reading

I don't want to be at work today. I'd much rather be anywhere else reading my book. Currently I'm reading Emma by Jane Austen. And I will admit it is much more intersting then my life.

I learned recently that Clueless, starring Alicia Silverstone and Paul Rudd and as well as a bunch of other good actors, was loosly based on this book. I loved Clueless when I was in highschool (though I think the TV show sucked) so I have a feeling how the book will turn out. I wish I had realized that the movie was based on Jane Austen's book back then, I might have read it then instead of now. But I have a pretty good idea how the book will turn out.

Ok ok, I'll confess, I rented the movie Emma starring Gwyneth Paltrow and Jeremy Northam, which like Clueless came out in the mid-nineties so I have a better idea how the book will end.

Well... and I read parts of the end of the book because I just couldn't wait...

Reading when you have a full time job, a full time family, and a tiny bit of a life is hard to do, but I'm managing. I'm not a fast reader, I like to enjoy the story and though suspense often tries to kill me, I do like it.
